THE PRINCIPAL

Emma Fenghour
BA Hons RAD RTS STOTT Pilates

Emma was born and raised in Sutton Coldfield and trained as a young dancer under the guidance of Avril Gorman and Audrey Roper in the local area. At the age of 16, Emma achieved a scholarship to train dance vocationally at The Hammond School, enjoying a diverse dance education in Classical Ballet, Contemporary dance, Jazz, Tap and Spanish dance. She went on to train at Trinity Laban, graduating in 2012 with a BA Hons Degree in Dance Theatre. Emma then worked as a professional dancer for 6 years.  

 

Teaching dance has always been her passion and in 2017 Emma graduated with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Dance after studying towards the Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma. Since then, she has worked as an Associate Lecturer in Ballet and Contemporary Dance for the University of Surrey and held the position of Head of Contemporary Dance and Choreography at The School of Ballet Theatre UK. She has also worked as a ballet tutor at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts on their degree and diploma in dance programmes in London and as a regular contemporary and creative tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance and The DanceXchange Birmingham.

It was always her dream to run her own dance school and  now she focuses full-time on running The Dance Collective.

BALLET TEACHER

Ríona O' Dowd
BA Hons PGDipEd

Ríona has a First Class BA Honours degree in Dance, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDipEd), and has trained in RAD Ballet her whole life in Grades 1-8 as well as Intermediate, Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1. Ríona has gained valuable experience of working with children from her time as a primary school teacher and can now combine her love of dance and teaching through her classes at The Dance Collective!

BALLET TEACHER (MATERNITY COVER)

Judith Florey-Meah
RAD RTS B.Phil (Ed). PGCE

​Judith started attending ballet classes at the age of 3 and continued right up until age 18 always studying RAD ballet and assisting her teacher at the time with classes. She gained a degree in Youth and Community Studies and worked for the Birmingham Youth Service for over 18 years in a variety of settings across the city whilst completing a PGCE in teaching. Having returned to ballet as an adult she completed her Teaching Qualification with the RAD and opened her own classes 14 years ago, along with working in schools delivering ballet lessons. Over the years she has played an active part in the Regional RAD events and courses. Judith has continued to teach all levels of the RAD syllabus up to Vocational Levels and was one of the first cohort of teachers to become a Silver Swan Licensee. She has a real passion for ballet as an art form and believes everyone should have the chance to dance.
